DAY 16 - Wednesday 3rd September

You can see the original sore here, just in front of my ear. I mentioned in an earlier post that I woke earlier than normal, but on whole whole, so far, my sleep has not been a problem. After waking I googled Efudix pain relief and concluded that I would avoid using any other creams, whilst the treatment was being applied, in case it affected its efficacy. I can't believe that I was contemplating last night a short break from the treatment. My instruction leaflet from the consultant siad that this was okay provided that in total the treatment was applied for a full 21 days. That made my mind up. No breaks, I'm getting to the end of this as fast as I can! If I have major pain again I'll just bear it, or take a pain killer, even though I hate taking them.

The pain isn't bad this morning and I've applied the cream to across my face, including my cheeks and under my eyes, the creamy deposits to the edge of my nose are increased, but after applying the cream they soon disappear. The cream has dried in and my skin feels quite tight. I've just sneezed and looking in the mirror has revealed lots of tiny cracks and weeping under my eyes. There is also some scabbing to the side of my eyes. Oh, well. I've applied E45 on my forehead as it's a bit dry, but I've avoided getting it near the treatment area.

The burning is pretty intense. It is worst around my eyes where it is incredibly sensitive. Here and over my cheeks it is extremely tight and in the crease either side of my eyes it is bleeding slightly. The tiny cracks below my eyes are stinging and this is the worse pain I have felt. There is no way I can put cream on tonight on these areas. If I run my finger over the area just below my eye on the outside, the tiny bits of loose dry skin dig into my face - this is the 'shards of glass' feeling that people describe.

I have decided that I won't wimp out totally so apply cream across my face, leaving the area under my eyes, which is now weeping and crusty. After washing I leave my skin to dry because patting it dry hurts too much. The area around my nose has more creamy white deposits and the area under my eyes has little spots of blood where the skin is nearly broken. After applying the cream my cheeks are burning. I go to bed in some pain. Not happy. I take a couple of paracetamol to dull down the pain.

After totally failing to get to sleep, I get up in the early hours and take a look. The cream has soaked in and I decide to apply Aquaphor which arrived today from Amazon. On opening the tub I notice that it has a vaseline consistency and colour, almost clear but looking opaque in the tub. As I apply it to the area below and to the side of my eyes there is instant relief. This stuff is amazing and I'm so glad I did my research before starting the treatment. As soon as I go back to bed I fall asleep.
